Joshua Tree Elopement Timeline: How to Make the Most of Your Day

Eloping in Joshua Tree is all about soaking in the desert’s peaceful energy, golden light, and stunning landscapes. But how do you plan your day so it feels relaxed and intentional while still capturing all the moments that matter? Here’s a sample timeline to help you visualize what your dream Joshua Tree elopement could look like. These times may change depending on what time of year you’ll be there so keep that in mind!

Sunrise Elopement Timeline (Best for Avoiding Crowds & Soft Desert Light)

4:30 AM – Wake Up & Get Ready
If you’re staying in an Airbnb or campsite, this is the perfect time to sip coffee and ease into the day while getting ready. A makeup artist can come to you, or you can keep it simple and do it yourself.

5:45 AM – Drive to Ceremony Location
Joshua Tree National Park is vast, so plan ahead for travel time. Popular ceremony spots like Cap Rock or Hidden Valley are easy to access, while a more secluded location might require a short hike.

6:15 AM – Sunrise Ceremony
Exchange vows as the sky shifts from deep blue to soft pink and gold. The desert is quiet, and it’s just you, your partner, and the vast landscape.

6:45 AM – Couples Portraits & Exploring
This is when the magic happens! Sunrise light is soft and dreamy, perfect for portraits among the boulders, Joshua Trees, and open desert.

8:00 AM – Celebrate with Breakfast & a Slow Morning
Head back to your Airbnb for a homemade breakfast, or stop by a local favorite like Crossroads Café. Or have a picnic in the park!

Sunset Elopement Timeline (Best for Golden Light & Stargazing)

2:00 PM – Getting Ready & Details
Pop champagne, write love letters, and soak up the excitement. At this time, I can capture the little details like your dress hanging, rings, and final touches or focus on candids with you and your partner or any loved ones that are there. Or if you’re like Kristi & Cardinal, maybe you’ll be doing some Ax throwing.

4:00 PM – First Look & Private Vow Exchange
If you want a private moment before your ceremony, a first look among the Joshua Trees is perfect. You can also exchange personal vows here before the official ceremony.

5:00 PM – Drive to Ceremony Location
Plan extra time for travel and parking, especially if you’re visiting during peak season.

5:30 PM – Sunset Ceremony
Say your vows as the sun dips behind the boulders, creating that golden glow Joshua Tree is famous for.

6:00 PM – Golden Hour Portraits
Right after the ceremony is prime time for dreamy portraits. Walk through the desert, dance under the Joshua Trees, or climb up boulders for epic views.

7:30 PM – Private Dinner or Stargazing Celebration
Whether it’s an intimate dinner at your Airbnb, a fireside picnic, or popping a bottle of champagne under the stars, end your day in a way that feels true to you.

Bonus: Full-Day Adventure Elopement

Want to turn your elopement into a full-day experience? Here’s how to make it even more memorable:

  • Morning Hike: Start the day with a sunrise hike at Hidden Valley or Barker Dam.
  • Midday Break: Relax, take a nap, or have a picnic at your Airbnb.
  • Afternoon Jeep Tour: Explore off-the-beaten-path areas of Joshua Tree.
  • Sunset Ceremony & Stargazing: Wrap up the night under the Milky Way for a truly unforgettable experience.

No matter how you structure your elopement, the most important thing is to make it feel like you. Joshua Tree offers endless possibilities for an intentional, stress-free wedding day filled with adventure and love.
