While most people picture warm summer days and crowded shores, winter brings a quiet, intimate vibe that makes it feel like you have the whole coastline to yourself. And let me tell you—Shaw’s Cove in November? Absolute perfection.
I had the honor of photographing a Brianna & Chris’ elopement here, and it was one of those days that just felt right. The couple kept things simple—just ten of their closest family and friends, the sound of the waves, and a harpist playing softly in the background.
Shaw’s Cove is already a little hidden gem, but in winter, it’s even more peaceful. The tide was low, revealing the most gorgeous rocky outcrops and tide pools, which added such a dreamy touch to their portraits. The couple exchanged vows right on the sand, with the softest golden light breaking through the clouds.
One of my favorite moments was when the harpist started playing right as they shared their first kiss and then afterwards they went right into their first dance. The sound of the harp mixed with the ocean waves? Unreal.
After the ceremony, we took a slow stroll along the beach, snapping some candid moments while the couple soaked it all in. They laughed, they danced barefoot in the sand, stuck their toes in the water, and they fully embraced that “just married” glow. Afterwards, they enjoyed a meal at Las Brisas which was just a short drive away.
Winter elopements like this prove that you don’t need a big production to have a beautiful wedding. Just the right people, a meaningful place, and a little bit of music to set the mood. And if you ask me, Shaw’s Cove in winter might just be one of the most underrated elopement spots in SoCal.
